The ban kicks in from July 06.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In May, <b><i>India&#8217;s top court<\/i><\/b> had set the next date for the hearing of the case on July 20, two weeks after the ban <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">would come into force. In our earlier request to the RBI as well, we had asked it to extend the deadline by a month after the July 20 hearing,\u201d said Rashmi Deshpande, associate partner at Khaitan &amp; Co.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Khaitan &amp; Co is a law firm representing Kali Digital Eco-Systems, an Indian exchange planning to begin operations later this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHowever, now that the ban will continue, the banking route for the exchanges and its users will be completely choked,\u201d Deshpande added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On May 17, during the previous hearing, the apex court had asked these exchanges to submit their representation against the central bank. <a href=\"http:\/\/traders-paradise.com\/magazine\/2018\/06\/first-time-in-india-trading-in-bitcoin\">The firms had engaged with the RBI during the last week of May and early June.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe had submitted a detailed presentation that could have given RBI a clearer picture of what is blockchain, <a href=\"https:\/\/traders-paradise.com\/magazine\/2018\/11\/cryptocurrency-market\/\">how the exchanges work<\/a>, etc. But we hadn\u2019t heard back from them yet,\u201d said Nischal Shetty, founder, and CEO of WazirX, another Indian cryptocurrency exchange that has challenged the ban. \u201cToday, the (India&#8217;s) supreme court has also directed the RBI to respond to those representations made by the firms in the next seven days.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Focus_on_Bitcoin_and_Blockchain\"><\/span>Focus on Bitcoin and Blockchain<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1290\" src=\"http:\/\/traders-paradise.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/btc-india-1-e1531128393135.jpg\" alt=\"India\u2019s Top Court Refused To Lift Ban On Cryptocurrency Exchanges\" width=\"304\" height=\"203\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Narendra Modi government is in the final stages of finalizing the draft regulation on bitcoin and other currencies, according to a senior government official. That&#8217;s why despite <b><i>India&#8217;s top court<\/i><\/b> upholding the ban, the exchanges are hopeful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe have prepared a draft (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on virtual currencies<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) that entails what parts of these businesses should be banned and what should be preserved. This should be discussed by the first week of July and we should wrap this up within in the first fortnight of July,\u201d \u00a0said Subhash Chandra Garg, secretary in the department of economic affairs, who is heading a committee on <a href=\"https:\/\/traders-paradise.com\/magazine\/2019\/04\/forex-trading-iindian-market\/\">cryptocurrency regulation<\/a>, told television news channel ET last month.<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>What to say?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All eyes are on the government and the next supreme court hearing on July 20.
